Susan Wilkinson was born in India, educated in Ireland and lives in Canada. Of a medical family, three of her great-grandfather’s brothers were doctors in South America, and her Irish-born father served in India and Burma in World War II in the Indian Medical Service (IMS). With Indian Independence, the IMS was disbanded, and the family went to live in Ireland, first in various rural towns in the county of Kildare, surrounded by her father’s numerous relatives, and eventually in Dublin.

At eighteen, she left Ireland to train as a nurse in England, travelled to Greece, New Zealand and South America, which gave her a chance to meet her Argentine relatives whose ancestors had emigrated from Ireland in the 19th century. Argentina became an inspiration for her writing and remains so. She is author of works, both fictional and non-fictional, relating to Argentina.
